Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease, also known as gum diseases, occurs when bacteria accumulate in the area between the teeth and gums. This excess of bacteria can lead to infection and eventual deterioration of the gum. If left untreated, it can also lead to loss of teeth.
The symptoms of gum disease do not usually emerge until the disease has reached its advanced stages. That is why regular checkups are so important in preventing this disease. At each visit we remove the hardened plaque that has built up along the gum line. If we see symptoms of the disease, we can immediately set you on a course of treatment.
Prevention and Treatment
If detected early enough, gum disease can be prevented or even reversed. If you have any concerns or have noticed any of the following symptoms, please contact our office for an examination:
- red, swollen gums
- persistent bad breath
- bleeding during brushing or flossing
- loose teeth
