Everything You Needed to Know about Preventative Dentistry

Dentistry is about more than just fixing broken teeth and telling you to floss more. Your Windsor family dentist plays an important role in helping you maintain optimum health.

One way to help improve overall health through dentistry is to ensure your dentist focuses on preventative dentistry. Here at Dr.Dan Foresto Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, preventative dentistry is at the core of everything we do.

Preventative Dentistry means regular dental check-ups focused on preventing problems from developing, rather than fixing problems that already exist. The team at Dr. Dan Foresto Dentistry is here to help remedy any dental issues that you’re having, but our hopes are that we can work with patients over the long term to make sure their teeth and gums stay healthy and prevent problems from developing that will need fixing down the road.

You may already be caring for your teeth with preventative dentistry in mind. The most common activities involved in preventative dentistry are:

  • Regular check-ups with your favourite Windsor dentist (every 6-9 months)
  • Routine x-rays based on recommendations from your dentist

For many, preventative dentistry is completely covered by your health insurance.

While preventative dentistry involves regular visits with a dentist and hygienist, the real work starts at home, with you.

Here are a few things you can do:

  • Eating healthy
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Avoid sugary drinks and food
  • Avoid acidic foods
  • Don’t smoke!
  • Brushing twice a day
  • Floss daily

These are the cornerstones of a healthy smile!

And don’t forget about the little ones – setting up a healthcare routine that includes regular dental visits when your children are young will set them up for a lifetime of oral health. Make sure they know that the dentist is there to help them look, feel and live their best lives, and they’ll know that dental visits are nothing to fear as they grow up.

Has it been a while since you’ve seen the friendly faces at Dr. Dan Foresto dental office? Call today to schedule an appointment.
